Thomas De Gendt renews his contract for two years with Lotto Soudal
“It was so obvious for me. It never entered my mind to change teams. Why should I?”, Thomas De Gendt said.
This year, Thomas De Gendt will take part in the three Grand Tours. The Lotto Soudal rider tells about that ambition, while he also previews his goals in the Giro.
Thomas De Gendt: “During the past few years, I always did two Grand Tours. Because Adam Hansen rode all three each year, I wanted to try that too sometime. Of course my goal is to finish all three Grand Tours, but not just like that. I also want to perform well. In the Giro, I am aiming for a stage victory. If that happens, my season would already be semi-successful. In the high mountains, it is very difficult to win, but I already performed well there too. I marked quite some stages which can be interesting but a lot depends of course on how the race itself will unfold.”
“I always keep an eye on the King of the Mountains classification as well. I look where the most points are to be earned. At the moment, it is not really a goal for me, but it could always become one. However, riding four or five days specifically to get that jersey, really lessens your chances on a stage win.”
