Stefano Oldani signs two-year pro contract at Lotto Soudal

The promising Italian Stefano Oldani turns pro at Lotto Soudal next year; he signed a contract for two seasons. The 21-year-old Oldani is the third Italian rider in the history of Lotto Soudal.

After being part of Team Colpack, Oldani completed an internship with Kometa Cycling Team at the end of last year, which delivered him a place in the 2019 squad. This season, Oldani kept on collecting top ten results in amongst others the Tour of Antalya, the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon and the Tour of Hungary. In addition, he sprinted – each time after a tough stage - to a third and fifth place at the prestigious U23 race, the Tour de l’Avenir. Oldani is of course delighted with his transfer to Lotto Soudal.

Stefano Oldani: “It sure is a pleasure and also a dream to join the team next year because I think Lotto Soudal is one of the best teams in the world. I really want to thank the team for this big opportunity and I will always give my all as a sign of gratitude. Cycling is a really important sport in Belgium and is closely followed. It is the perfect country to learn everything about cycling and Lotto Soudal is the perfect team to understand the sport.”

“I started cycling at the age of five and at the moment, I am facing an important part of my career because next year will be my first year as a professional rider. I am more like a sprinter but also a complete rider because I can climb quite well and I also have a fast sprint. I like the stage races as well as the big Classics like Paris-Roubaix and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.”

“The next two years, I will of course do all I can to support my future teammates as best as possible. I will also try to learn as much as possible from all the experienced Lotto Soudal riders. Of course, I know guys like Caleb Ewan, Tim Wellens and Gilbert, who will join the team next season. I am really looking forward to race together with them. My next race will be the Coppa Agostoni, where I’ll participate with the national team. After that, I will maybe do another pro race. The U23 world championships is a possibility, but the selections haven’t been announced just yet.”
