In his first race after a short break following the spring Classics, Lotto Soudal rider Arnaud De Lie finished seventh in the WorldTour one-day race of Eschborn-Frankfurt. With amongst others four ascents of the short but steep Mammolshain, the peloton faced a selective course. However, the one-day Classic in Germany unfolded in a traditional way, with a reduced bunch heading with a fast pace towards Frankfurt. There, it was after a few local laps in the city centre that the race was decided in a bunch kick. The Irishman Sam Bennett won the race, 20-year-old De Lie obtained yet another good result in his first year as a pro by finishing 7th.

Arnaud De Lie: “It was only my first race after a bit of rest and I really felt that I missed a bit of race rhythm. It was a hard day but I had good legs and could count on the team to bring me back to the front after the climbs. In the final, it was hard to keep the wheel of Maxim Van Gils and Reinardt Janse van Rensburg because I hadn’t that much energy left to follow them. I could still take 7th but maybe a better result could have been possible. All in all, I’m happy with my return to racing and I’m looking forward to the 4 Jours de Dunkerque, which is my next race”.
