Lotto Soudal rider Caleb Ewan returns to competition at the eight-day Tour of Turkey (2.Pro), which starts in Bodrum on Sunday 10 April and finishes one week later in Istanbul on the 17th of April. For the Australian, it will be his first race since Tirreno-Adriatico early March. During the Tour of Turkey, which includes plenty of sprint stages, Ewan will focus on gaining race rhythm towards the first Grand Tour of the year, the Giro d’Italia. In the sprint preparation, the fast Australian will be accompanied by Jasper De Buyst, Michael Schwarzmann and Rüdiger Selig. Thomas De Gendt will be riding his 2nd Tour of Turkey, youngster Harm Vanhoucke is keen on showing his climbers legs during the tough stages.

Caleb Ewan – double stage winner in the 2019 Tour of Turkey – is looking forward to race again after illness kept him from participating at Milan-Sanremo.

“After my non-participation at Milan-Sanremo, I already had to be off the bike because I was recovering from illness. So together with the team we decided it would be better to take a somewhat longer break and then start preparing towards the Giro, which includes the Tour of Turkey”, says Caleb Ewan.

“The eight-day Tour of Turkey will be a nice opportunity for myself and the sprint team to work together. It’s a race with a lot of sprint stages, maybe five to six, so it’s a really good one to start back with. I wouldn’t say I am in my top shape yet because it was only recent that I got sick and had my time off. I have been building back up towards this race but I think I am in reasonable shape nevertheless. I am looking forward to the eight days of racing ahead with a strong team and we are really motivated to make it a good week.”
